Adult And Continuing Education

Question:
Who governs (American) adult and continuing education programs? I know it's something like...the council on continuing ed or something like that. Web searches have produced fruitless results, though. I've been to their website a good while back but forgot its address.

Can anyone help me???

Answer:
I do. (Seriously, no one does. maybe Leland Milton Goldblatt does, but only in his own fantasies.)

Several years ago, there was an organzation called the Council on the Continuing Education Unit, a private organization that set voluntary standards for the granting of CEU's. However, CEU's deal with professional education only (required in some professions, such as law, nursing, counseling, and related fields, and mandated on a state-by-state basis), are defined as one CEU per ten hours of contact time, and do not count as college credit. The CCEU changed its name a few years back, but I don't remember the new name.

As far as continuing education itself (which can be college-level or CEU based), there is no one organization that "runs the show."
