Adult Christian Education

Question:
Would that more and more EC lay people could become more knowledgeable. I have been trying for years to get more adult Christian Education stuff going in my parish, but, while the clergy will support it, few lay people are interested. I don't get that.

To me, the Christian life is really the center of our existence, is it not? So it just seems natural to me that more lay persons would want to study more. But that is not the case.

My tentative thinking is that since the EC seems to focus more on worship and liturgy, and does that very well, Christian history and theology seem to take a back seat. (Anyone who wants to jump in here with their thoughts, please do.)

What's your opinion???

Answer:
I have to tell you one of my best experiences has been the Education for Ministry class I'm involved in with my parish. It's a great group of very spiritual-minded people. The materials the University of the South develops for the course are excellent -- especially for commentaries for studying the scriptures. I would recommend this course to any lay person. It's really helped my spiritual life take off. It's difficult for me to imagine why more people aren't interested in these types of courses. People don't know what they're missing!! I wish there were a way to get more people involved in such activities.
