Question:
In case anyone is wondering, I did not get tutoring and Stefanie most definitely outperformed me in class..... again! The teacher, as well as most of the other students there, told her to work me and make me study at home! I have had several members of class come up to me and express their surprise at how well my daughter is doing. While nice to hear the unknowning "backhanded" compliments they gave, it reminds me of so many stereotypes that still remain.
This time we did get to have some fun, we were given words on cards, we had to sign them, and then whomever had the word that matched had to give up their cards ... go fish sign language style! Next week we are going to have an alphabet race. Stefanie already told me not to come in last, she will be embarrassed! However, I have discovered that some of these classmates have already been thru sign language classes and are "refreshing" so I don't feel so badly about my performance. Can you get arthritis from signing?
Answer:
I'm taking a Beginners class from neighboring community's Adult Continuing Education program, one of three adult ed programs in the area offering ASL classes this spring. This program has 3 offerings of ASL this term, beginners, advanced, and sort of a recreational course for signing to music, kinda signing instead of singing.
Where are these classes offered? I've asked my son's infant educator and she said she'd let me know when it was time, but I feel like it's never too early to start. Just wondering if I could go after this one on my own, but I don't know where to start looking???
