Question:
Does anyone know enything about sewing courses/camps for kids age 10 ish in SW London/Surrey area? It could be adult courses too - if they are at reasonable times.
My 9 year old daughter has taken over my sewing machine (She begged me to let her use it to sew on all her name tapes for a recent school trip) and is ready for a bit of tuition.
She's a bright kid, and is picking things up from books I "casually" leave open at the right page (she wont listen to me directly). I'd love to find her an opportunity for her to find out about handle and drape of different kinds of fabric - something that goes well beyond my experience.
She's already created a jcloth & felt wardrobe for her younger sister's barbie collection.
Is there any pattern drafting software out there that will make patterns for kids?
Answer:
I wish you were in Kent! Kent Adult Education runs something called The Kent Children's University - for them I teach sewing in 4 week courses. It might be worth taking a look at their web site and then asking your local education service if something similar runs in your area.
If you get stuck I could send you some of the ideas I've done with the kids in the past. If you look under Teaching on my web site you can pick up the KCU web site from there.
