Adult Education Course

Question:
Does anyone know about any woodworking schools in the Boston area?I'm looking for an woodworking course as soon as possible. Can anyone give me some suggestions or source of information to search? I'm very in need of this course.Any help for me??? < end question -->Depends on what you are looking for. The North Bennett Street School has offered a great two week course during the summer called Introduction to Fine Woodworking. It is expensive (about $800 plus you will need to buy some tools that you may not already have bringing the total to somewhere over $900) and you will need to burn two weeks of vacation time, but it is the best class that I have ever taken in anything, ever. They also offer a number of other less expensive (time and money) short courses on a variety of related subjects. Their main cirriculum however is a number of two year courses in furniture making cabinet making as well as the making of musical instruments. Less expensive courses that will introduce you to the hobby as opposed to turn you into a seasoned woodworker are all around. Boston Adult Education offers a course, The Elliot Street School in Jamaica Plain offers a course, and most of the surrounding Boston suburbs have evening adult education courses which almost always include woodworking. The one draw back to these adult education courses is that it is really difficult to learn anything. There is almost no class time involved where you would take the time to learn the right way to set up and use the machinery, or any of the simplest elements of design which might be useful for projects down the line. You need to come into these courses knowing what you want to make, and the instructor will walk you slowly through that project (

You need to come into these courses knowing what you want to make, and the instructor will walk you slowly through that project (the teacher to student ratio is low, they can't afford to spend much time with any one student). In short, if you go to one of these courses wanting to build a bird house, you will learn to build a bird house and not much else. But they are a nice way to get your feet wet, and discover if you want to continue the hobby.
