Adult Education Courses

Question:
My wife has just been drafted onto our church (UU Fellowship of San Luis Obispo) adult education committee.

Can anyone tell me the subjects of UU adult education courses they have taken and which they found interesting / stimulating?

Answer:
Many things can come under that heading. At our Fellowship we have a discussion group called "Intellectual Salon" which meets one evening a week and has been doing so for a few years. We have another discussion group which meets on Sunday mornings and is called appropriately "Sunday Morning Forum". We have evening and morning Buddhist Meditation Groups which meet weekly. We have "Bookworms" (a book discussion group), a senior exercise group and a Tai Chi group all of which meet weekly. In the past we had a play reading group. All were started independently by people who had an interest but all are under the umbrella of Adult Education.

For more formal, short term programs we have had "Building Your Own Theology" and a bible study group (from a UU viewpoint of course). We currently have a group studying the life of Jesus from a modern scientific viewpoint which I believe was inspired by "The Jesus Seminar".

IMO any intellectual pursuit done by a group in the congregation qualifies as Adult Education.
