Question:
I started in 1996 to prepare multimedai for the Internet. What a surprise! It took 5 hours to render a 5 minute film, the download time was too slow and storage costs too high. My 9.5 gig Seagat Barracuda hard drive cost $2,000 then. After investing about $10,000 I learned that the Internet, software, and computers were not ready for multimedia.
Now I am looking at preparing wmv multimedia streaming downloads using the Microsoft Media 9 encoder, Producer, and MovieMaker version 2 storing on PlayStream.com and going for it. I am looking at preparing 8 hours of online training in 8 one hour modules for 100k to 350k download speeds. Does anyone know of anyone that has done this? Do you think the price is right at about $200 per month at Playstream when the profit is about $1000 per month.
Answer:
I sell online continuing education where buyers are required to performed X hours of learning. The buyers must have the continuing education to relicense so I am not talking about the general public. I am thinking of offering an optional high speed learning center where streaming download multimedia will be a part of the learning exercise. I am convinced that in 2 years over 75 per cent of the users will have download speeds in excess of 150k. I am looking at developing these learning modules for 2005 classes. Development and approval time is about six months.
