Question:
I do know english, familiar with its grammar and satisfied with my written communication in english. But I do lack verbal skills in english and have an accent which makes people here unable to understand me without me speaking repeating what I said or spell some words to get it right.
I think many of other non-natives must have a similar problems and would very well appreciate if someone could advise me what to do. I did look up some courses in english but most of the courses start with basic english which I am familiar with, I only have an accent and maybe some embarrassment so if anyone knows of an appropriate course in any of the community colleges please help me.
Answer:
I've seen just such courses listed here in the South Bay, although I can't remember now whether it was at a community college or the adult education division of a local school district. Try calling both types of places and there's a good chance you'll find what you need.
I've seen those courses in the brochure that comes in the mail either from San Jose or Cupertino Adult Education. I think the courses were titled something like Accent Improvement. San Jose Adult Ed is on the web at and I'm sure the Cupertino Adult Ed must be too.
