Question:
I am wondering whether anyone in the UK can help us. Are there any Record parts out there going spare, I have recently started teaching a women's turning class in Milton Keynes. Over the years tools in the workshop have become few and far between and so I went begging to the local adult education Centre to find some money to retool the arts Centre workshop. They were very positive and generous and came up with enough to kit each lathe with a chuck and provide several sets of hand tools. but then the money ran out. What I need now for some of the record lathes are drive belts. The ones we have are very worn some to the point of not staying centred on the pulleys because the rubber ridges have come away, probably from the many different users not seating them properly or tightly enough, and also a couple of small tool rests.

Next financial year I might try to get some money for replacement bearings, that should quieten the workshop down a bit. With ten lathes going at the same time it gets a bit noisy some days.

Any way I know that often lathes get left in sheds due to ill health or lack of interest and often rust away, so if there is anyone out there who knows of anyone with a Record lathe or spares who might like to donate parts, please send them our way, If they are within travelling distance I will pick them up or pay for the postage willingly.

Answer:
have you asked Record if they are willing to donate anything? They might just help given that it is a community project. It doesn't hurt to ask!

contact Record and see what they would do for you. If you sweeten up the deal a bit by sending something off for the news section of say, "Woodturning" magazine, it might help your case a bit

If some of the Record lathes are from their Coronet days, you might be interested in Derek Pyatt's services. He supplies parts for obsolete Coronet (Derby) lathes. The taper bearings which some Record Power lathes use are the same as the Derby Coronets. Derek can be contacted on (01902)791656. You might also manage to get the Adult Education Centre to make up some spare tool rests.
