Question:
I have some wonders related to adult learning courses whilst on visitors visa.does anyone know if i need to have a student visa if, when i am in canada on a visitors visa, i want to go to a college to take an paid evening class?
I've search on internet but find no much information so I want to ask if someonehave experience or know much about this to guide me. Can anyone give me some suggestions/ directions or source of informations???
Answer:
If the course is not academic, professional nor vocational in nature, e.g., a self-imporvement, general interest course such as flower arranging or repair your own car, you do not need a student visa.
Section 14.1 of the regulations says that "no person, other than a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, shall attend any university of college or take any academic, professional or vocational training course in Canada unless that person possesses a valid and subsisting student authorization."
Section 14.2 says that "Section 14.1 does not apply...if b) the sole course taken or to be taken is a French or English language training course that is 3 months or less in duration."
If you are in Quebec other local rules apply as well.
