I'm looking for recommendations for nice wedding reception venues in the Boston area -- specifically, someplace that allows you to both stock the bar yourself and to provide your own caterer of choice. There will be between 100-150 guests. Any suggestions ???

In the Boston area or in Boston itself? If you are planning a reception in '97, want in in the city of Boston and haven't booked a reception site yet . . . good luck. Places such as hotels probably wont let you bring in your own caterer and certainly not stock your own bar (um, I think there are some legal issues or liability issues concerning this). Try places such as the Musuem of Fine Arts or the Aquarium. There is a place on Commonwealth Ave called (I believe) The Adult Learning Center (or Adult Education Center) which sounds awful but is in a beautiful historic mansion very near (possibly overlooking) the park BTW a great place for photos ;). They rent out their ballrooms for weddings and I know that they allow your own caterer (you may want to check on the alcohol though).
Andover Country Club is also another beautiful place that you might want to consider. It is, obviously, outside of Boston therefore a lot less expensive but just as elegant. We were going to go with this until the Odyssey sold us on their package.
