Question:
I was wondering if anyone organises an architectural tour of Boston. I once went on a mini-tour of the Public Library which was very enjoyable, so I'd love to do it on a bigger scale.
Any suggestions for me???
Answer:
Try the Boston Center for Adult Education. Their "classes" usually include a variety of city tours.
Probably lot what you're looking for, but every August the Back Bay Midnight Pedallers have a late night architectural tour / bike ride through Boston and nearby cities...
An Architectural Walking Tour of Boston's Most Fascinating Neighborhoods
Like many European cities, Boston is known for its buildings of fine architectural design, quality, craftsmanship, and references to historical styles and cultures. Explore five of Boston's neighborhoods, discover each area's unique architectural elements and cultural influences, and broaden your kowledge of Boston's development. The first class convenes at the BCAE for an introductory talk on Boston's topographical and architectural development. Then, for the next five weeks, hit the bricks with architectural historian Ed Gordon and explore the cultural personality, architectural features, and varied history of each neighborhood. Start with historical Beacon Hill, then move on to Jamaica Plain, the South End, Back Bay, and the North End. After each tour, share your enthusiasm for architecture over dinner (not included in tuition) at a restaurant that captures the historical or ethnic character of each neighborhood. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, and prepare to explore more than three hundred years of Boston architectural and community history.
