Question:
in a term of five years I want tovisit Gettysburg, PA. Can somebody tell me, on which airfield I have to landand a few names of good hotels in Gettysburg. Perhaps I can stay by you andin return I can give you lodging when you visit some of the great europeanbattlefields, i.c. Ieper, Waterloo, Ardennes.
Answer:
My recommendations would be to fly into Harrisburg from Philadelphia andtake the train into Gettysburg. If you are more adventurous, rent a carand drive the 50 odd miles to Gettysburg. That part (actually allparts) of Pennsylvania is quite picturesque. Not exactly the Alps, butwe like it. For lodging I would recommend the Gettysburg Inn or theDoubleday Inn, both can be found on the internet.
May I second this opinion and recommend staying in Shepherdstown, WV, 4mi. from Antietam (Sharpsburg) and 9 mi. from Harpers Ferry, anothergood CW venue. Stay at the Comfort Inn (where the feds go forcontinuing education and peace talks or the Thomas Shepherd Inn.
Also, visit the Jefferson County Museum in CharlesTown, right outside of Harpers Ferry (or is it the other way around?).
