Question:
I haven't taken any yet. They look good, so I'm planning on trying one out. The Manchester store has a NICE shop / classroom. There's a Woodcraft in Orange? I live in Middletown and was suprised to see Woodcraft classes listed inour Adult Education catalog. This kind of pisses me off, as Middletownis also home to Vinal Tech, which happens to house a pro quality shop. I wish the city would offer some classes at Vinal, as I could get theoperations I can't do at home done, on the cheap! For instance, it would be great to have access to a huge belt sander. Middletown Adult Ed's woodworking classes are simply Woodcraft's normal schedule and feestructure. I usually buy tools and accessories at the Wallingford or Manchester Woodworkers Warehouse, or Manchester Woodcraft. My lumber comes from Harris in Manchester or CT Hardwood Outlet in Enfield. Harris was OUT of red oak and poplar last tuesday, I towed my trailer all the way up there for it.( Picked up about 40 bd/ft of ash and 25 bd/ft of birch though. Were do you get your wood?
Answer:
150 Boston Post Road, Orange (although their web site calls it the NewHaven Store. 'm in Waterbury so Orange is actually a little closer (and in goodweather if the tide is right the fishing pier is one town over inMilford), but I'd like to take some finishing courses at one store orthe other. I also have gone to Harris and CT Hardwood Outlet. I have some superbbird's eye maple that I got from Harris just before christmas. I wasgoing to make some presents but an unheated garage for a shop with thecurrent tempatures has made me put things on hold for a while.
One of my next projects is going to be an alakan chain saw mill. Mynephew works for a tree service and they have a 8,000 lb crane on oneof their trucks. He is going to call me when they get nice straighttrees they are taking down. I have a 16' car trailer that I can haullogs on and my father in law has a monster husquavana chain saw with a36" bar (the 60" bar they used to use for stumping is missing), so adda ripping chain or three, and a solar kiln and it adds up to freewood. Now if I can only luck into just one nice bird's eye maple..
