Question:
Can anyone reccomend a place that offers cooking classes in the Boston area.I'm looking to give the classes as a Christmas gift to a friend. Ifpossible I would like it to be a class on a specific regional type ofcooking as opposed to general cooking classes; maybe Italian, Chinese, Thai,French.
Answer:
The Cambridge Center for Adult Education has all sorts of fun classes, fromone-day specials to eight-week courses. I think the Boston Center for AdultEd does also.
For the serious, there is the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in N. Cambridge
There used to be a cooking school in Newton Center, off Picadelli Square,IIRC. That was a very long time ago, though.
The Brookline Adult Education also offers a wide variety of cooking classes. Some are one day courses , others over a period of 3 or 4 weeks. I have takenmany (mediterranean, chinese, desserts, etc...) and the instructors have beenvery good. If you request to be the instructor's assistant you get to go tothe class for free (you just pay for the food fee). You do have to show upearlier than the students and help the instructor set up everything, assist himduring the class and organize the clean-up (everyone has to pitch in).
